Still hanging in there with PHENIX...

I guess we never started a PHENIX blog - (wow - what an oversight!) so I'll put this posting here.
(reminder - the PHENIX site is here https://sites.google.com/site/pheguild/home)

We hit a major slow spot for a couple of staffing and competing activities reasons, but now (with a push from some colleagues in Wisconsin) we intend to get going again.  Nice to see that the hits on the site have been continuing, regardless!

PHENIX has been receiving and loading data all summer - we've just not had time to connect those data to anything externally visible.

We're meeting next week to work on a plan and timeline.  Stay tuned...

Distribute Data Dumps

Dumps of the data submitted to Distribute are now available. Each dump contains two parts. The first part is a simple CSV file with one row per value and a column for each stratifier. The second part is the raw SQL records from the Distribute database. The database schema and relevant metadata are also included in the SQL portion.

The dump files are being hosted on https://isds-auth.cirg.washington.edu/. I can provide links to each dump file via email.

PHENIX link

The PHENIX site has a bit more information on terms of participation, etc., speicifically for Distribute participants:  https://sites.google.com/site/pheguild/home

We won't move data directly from Distribute to PHENIX, but you can send us your Distribute Archive download files and we can import them directly into PHENIX, if you wish to participate in that project, either now or later.

The Distribute data feeds can also be set up easily to send data to PHENIX, if you would like to continue to use the same mechanism.  Info from Bill (lober@uw.edu)

The beginning of the end

Seems funny to start a blog about the end of a project, but it seems like the emails are getting confusing, and we could use a clear place to post information and announcements, both about the end of Distribute, about the Gossamer code base, which is now open source, and about the PHENIX system, as it takes shape.

In brief:

  • CDC funding for Distribute ends May 31, 2012.  (Actually, there may be carryforward funding, but ISDS is ending support for the Distribute system as of May 31).
  • The Distribute Restricted site is currently scheduled to be taken off line May 31, 2012.  (I may move that up in time a bit).
  • The Distribute Public Site was taken off line April 4, 2012.  There is now a page there w/ an explanation.
  • ISDS published a letter on April 4, 2012 providing some additional information
  • We will make each site's data available to them in an archive form, but there will be no more use of or access to Distribute contributors' data as of May 31, 2012, perhaps sooner.
Happier news:
  • The cloud-based, open source equivilent of Distribute has been freely available since Spring 2011.  We're still improving this is part of the final Distribute deliverable, "A cloud-based Distribute".
  • The PHENIX project is starting.  Contact please contact Marc Paladini (mpaladin@health.nyc.gov), Atar Baer (atar.baer@kingcounty.gov) or Bill Lober (lober@uw.edu) for more details.  PHENIX is a gossamer-based system to support voluntary sharing of surveillance indicator data.
